The Bahamas is a luxury holiday destination not usually associated with cheap holidays, however we do offer cheap Bahamas holidays.
A common misconception for many people planning cheap holidays to the Bahamas is that they are going to visit the Caribbean. The Bahamas are not part of the Caribbean, another misconception is that they are just a couple of islands in fact there are over 1000 islands making up the Bahamas chain.
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas was for a long period part of the British Commonwealth until they gained independence in the early 70s. There are around 30 islands that are properly inhabited with the largest island being Andros although New Providence has the largest population and is also the location of Nassau the countries capital. Several of the other well-known islands include Cat Island, Long island, Abaco as well as the popular islands of Grand Bahama, Eleuthera and Exuma
The Tropic of Cancer runs right through the middle of the island chain and brings with it a balmy subtropical climate which is directly affected by the warmth of the Gulf Stream. Average temperatures vary between 22° in winter and 32° in summer. Rainfall can be reasonably heavy with up to 1200mm a year. The main months for heavy rain are September and October as well as May and June.
Of the 350,000 inhabitants around 85% are the descendants of the original slaves with the other 15% made up mostly of people of British, Canadian and American descent. Once the famed base for many pirates it has a long history of smuggling even dating through the American civil war and even the 1920s American prohibition.
There are a huge number of things to see and do during cheap holidays to the Bahamas. Diving is one of the most popular attractions in the islands bringing many thousands of enthusiasts to explore the seas around the islands each year.
Sailing is also an incredibly popular thing to do while visiting the Bahamas. Many yachts make the trip from the mainland US each year to explore everything that Northern Americas nearest island neighbour as to offer. Other visitors simply go on a charter boat to enjoy the sunset as it falls smoothly into the ocean.
