Those who want to get some exercise and views away from the shoreline should venture into the Guaja National Park which has cycling and hiking trails that take visitors throughout the park with plenty of rock formations and wildlife to keep your senses enthralled. Nearby there are also canoe levies where you can hire a canoe and sail down the river or camp out under the stars.
For a historical sense of the region a stroll through the city of Riga is necessary where the streets are still cobbled and the architecture is very Art Nouveau. For a bit more culture you can head over to Sigulda and tour some historic castles such as the Turaida Castle which was built way back in 1214.
Those who are thinking about taking a summer holiday to Latvia should pay special attention to their arrival dates because there are several summer festivals that can make your trip even more entertaining. For instance there is the Jani Festival which celebrates the summer solstice and long hours by various flea markets throughout the city and bonfires throughout the night.
When planning cheap holidays to Latvia also keep your dates flexible to try and take in the Cesis festival which is held in the town of the same name. At this festival there are many medieval knight shows to celebrate the rich medieval heritage of Cesis alongside operas, art exhibits, and classical concerts.
